A shift in consciousness is not only appropriate, but necessary, to continue the process of evolution of the individual. To apply this method/theory, the individual can and should define consciousness to their liking. Personally, I define consciousness multiple ways. First, because I still am participating actively in this material world my day to day setting is a direct result of my consciousness, it effects my thoughts, attitude, actions and so on. Second, I could say that my consciousness isn't this material world that I do recognize as reality, I realize that this is one big illusion, but the fact is, as I stated above, I still haven't broken past that barrier regardless of what I know, or think I know, or what I realize; although climbing that wall and never returning is a personal long term goal of mine. For proper application of this entry, I'll use the first definition of consciousness stated.
Many people, myself included, realize and from time to time get "stuck" in the day to day, you wake up, go to work/school, take your breaks as scheduled, come home, spend the little "free" time you have doing something you enjoy or preparing for the next day of repetitiveness, then go to sleep and do it all over again, and again. I believe this can counterproductive for constructive thought, the mind becomes dull and possibly stagnant. In this cycle it's possible that we reach a point where we don't think or question anymore, simply because we don't have to.
I try to change it up every now and then, as an attempt to combat this cycle of repetitiveness. Some extreme ways to do this could be quit your job, and find a new one. One very extreme way I imagine could be to stop communicating with your friends and family, personally, I wouldn't do this because I love those people in my life, however if it was a for a short period of time it they would probably understand. Even if you did it for a short period of time, it could be interesting to see what happened, just for a short while. Would you find and make new friends/family? Or would you continue without a support system and really put yourself to the test?.... your test! Some less extreme changes or alterations might include a dietary change, or not using a car, stop using the internet, attain a part-time job in addition to your current full time career. Maybe stop eating out, practice celibacy, stop drinking alcohol, or maybe start using and experimenting with mind expanding drugs!
These are just some suggestions that I've come up with, maybe even done, but that's not the important part. The significance is introducing a FORCE OF CHANGE into your life. Imagine how much your perspective will change if you decided to not cook, and eat out of dumpsters only. Don't just think "walk in someone else's shoes", actually do it! Some of these examples may seem over the top, maybe they are, the decision is yours, your universe is yours. Forcing a change is a great way to keep the mind stimulated, and I think you'll find that you will learn a lot about this world, your world, and yourself. Keep things mixed up, shake it up and keep it interesting!
